CLASSICS 4 KIDS OPEN 18TH CONCERT SEASON WITH ELLINGTON’S NUTCRACKER SUITE ON NOVEMBER 13th

Classics 4 Kids is proud to open its 18th concert season on Sunday, November 13th by presenting Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite, featuring The Classics Philharmonic Orchestra and Malashock Dance.

Experience the transformation of Tchaikovsky's classical ballet into a swinging jazz masterpiece by legendary composer and bandleader Duke Ellington and arranger Billy Strayhorn, in this fun-filled family concert event.

Considered one of the great American Jazz legends, Duke Ellington formally recorded his version of Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic in 1960. Since then, The Duke’s version of The Nutcracker was hailed with much critical acclaim at the time of its original release, and has been performed by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra among others.

About the Classics Philharmonic Orchestra
Conducted by Dana Mambourg Zimbric, the orchestra is a professional ensemble comprised of top orchestral musicians from throughout Southern California.  The Philharmonic has been performing together since 1994 as the orchestra-in-residence for Classics 4 Kids.  The Classics Philharmonic Orchestra performs a variety of musical repertoire, ranging from traditional symphonic works, to new music, to symphonic pops, to jazz, and everything in-between.

About Classics 4 Kids

For the past eighteen years Classics 4 Kids has delivered music and arts-based learning experiences to more than 20,000 elementary school children annually in grades K-5. Classics 4 Kids professional development for teachers and standards based curriculum and programs help children connect the arts with math, science, reading, writing and social studies.  The non profit works with schools throughout San Diego County. Committed to providing access through Classics 4 Kids’ Title 1 school partnerships there is a special focus on children with limited opportunity to participate in the arts.
