Clairemont Produce Cooperative (CPC) News For March 2012
By Lisa Raggio
What is the CPC? The Clairemont Produce Cooperative offers home growers in the community of Clairemont an opportunity to expand their produce variety by exchanging produce with each other the second Saturday of each month. Growers pack their excess produce in bags and drop them off at a central location. The produce is then unpacked, categorized and divided so each member gets a sampling of all the produce when they return to pick up their “farmers market” bag. It is fun, free and not at all time-consuming.
Suzie’s Farm/Wild Willows Organic Farm Experience : The Clairemont Produce Cooperative has an opportunity for you and your family to experience organic farming on Saturday, March 24, 2012. You do not have to be a Clairemont Produce Cooperative member to attend. This event is open to everyone and involves a basic tour of Suzie Farm in South Bay, followed by volunteer time at the non-profit Wild Willows Farm nearby. There is a nominal fee of $2.50 per person to participate and you should pack a lunch and wear comfortable clothing. Please contact Lisa Raggio (information is below) by March 15 th at the number above if you would like to join us for this experience.
Clairemont Community Garden: A number of residents are interested in creating a community garden within Clairemont for the following reasons:
- Community gardens help to strengthen relationships by uniting neighbors with a common goal.
- Creating a productive community garden now will be an important step in preserving Clairemont’s best assets, which are our canyons and green spaces, since we project that the population and in-fill development will increase in the next 30 years.
- All families should have convenient access to low cost, nutritious, sustainable produce that they can choose to plant and grow themselves.
If you are interested in the produce exchange, Suzie’s Farm outing or supporting Clairemont Community Garden, please contact Lisa Raggio at j.raggio@att.net .
