Thursday Night Music in Clairemont

by Darcy Johnson

The Clairemont High School Music Department will present its 2012 Spring Concert at 7 p.m. this Thursday, May 24th in the Clairemont High School auditorium (4150 Ute Street).  All are welcome, admission is by donation at the door.

Enjoy performances by the guitar ensemble, orchestra ensemble, and band. The grand finale will combine the groups. As a special treat, there will be a preview of a group piece which is to be be performed in the upcoming talent show.

Your donations at the door and the proceeds from refreshment sales at intermission will raises funds that support the music program at CHS. Our program is small, so fundraising is difficult.

The funds we raise through the concert are used to help purchase music, have the band uniforms dry cleaned, pay entry fees for competitions and festivals, and provide a stipend for a wonderful local musician who comes in to work with our orchestra students as well as running the jazz band after school.

As you may know, all the district provides is a music teacher (which we are slated to lose next year) and a classroom, so the funds we raise provide just the basics of keeping a music program running. The students put their hearts into the band and orchestra program, so we want to do all we can to make sure they have a positive experience - and hopefully next year will work itself out and the school can find a way to keep the music program going. The students deserve that!
