District 6 Update from Lorie Zapf

District 6 Councilmember Lorie Zapf
District Changes Coming

Early next month, the new City Council boundaries drawn up by redistricting are going to take effect. On the first City Council meeting in December, the winners of the June and November 2012 elections will be sworn into office to represent their respective districts, including the newly created District 9.

Some communities that currently make up District 6, like Linda Vista and Mission Valley, had the opportunity to vote for their new representative. Those communities, along with Serra Mesa and parts of Kearny Mesa, have been moved into the new District 7, which will be represented by Councilman-elect Scott Sherman. While the community of Clairemont did not vote, we will also see some changes in our representation.
This is the last month that I will be the only City Council representative for Clairemont. Starting in December, the Western portions of Clairemont including Bay Ho and Bay Park will be represented by Councilman Kevin Faulconer, who represents the majority of the beach communities. Many of you have had the opportunity to meet Councilman Faulconer or his new Clairemont community representative at events and meetings leading up to the December change. I have worked closely with his office over the past year, helping to bring him up to speed on issues that are important to Clairemont residents.

While the representation of Clairemont has been divided, we have not been divided as a community. You will continue to see me, and my Clairemont reps Shirley and Ernie at community meetings and events. We will be collaborating closely with District 2 on Clairemont-area projects and initiatives. I encourage those of you affected by this change to get to know Councilman Faulconer’s office.

If you don’t know which district you will be living in come December, please contact my office. It has truly been a pleasure to serve the entire Clairemont community and to get to know so many of you.
