AOBT Students Are Motivated! |
Would your company or organization like help from a high school student intern? The 12th grade students at Clairemont High School’s Academy of Business & Technology (AOBT) are qualified, motivated young people who are required to do field internships from March - May as part of their Regional Occupational Program (ROP) business class credit. AOBT is now officially taking requests for interns for 2013! We are looking to place 28 students in a meaningful internship at a professional work site where they can put their skills into practice.

AOBT Intern Program Overview:
12th grade students are released from their afternoon class, three days a week, to apply their skills in a professional setting. Internships are ideally 4-10 afternoon hours per week during the months of March - May. Internships are typically unpaid, though paid internships are always welcome.
Student Intern Qualifications:
The AOBT students have taken classes in business, computers, and communications. Before interning, they are trained in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint), Google applications, Internet Research, finance, entrepreneurship, business ethics, interpersonal communication techniques, oral presentation skills, and workplace etiquette.
Intern Placement Details:
Internship Duration: 10 weeks
Internship Start Date: Mon., March 4, 2013 / Internship End Date: Thur., May 23, 2013
Intern Weekly Hours: 4-10 hrs. per week on Mon., Tues., Thur. only (Wed. & Fri. students must be in class)
Intern Work Time Window: between 1:30 P.M. and 5:30 P.M.
Transportation: Students provide. (Free MTS public transit passes are provided by AOBT for students in need.)
Liability: Workers’ Compensation covered by school district for all unpaid internships
Evaluation: Interns monitored weekly by business instructor, evaluated by site internship supervisor
Preference will be given businesses/ organizations that:
(1) Find more info about the AOBT Internship Program at www.aobt.net under “For Industry Partners”
(2) Contact Business Instructor * Internship Advisor, Alan Walter, to express interest in hosting an intern
(3) Fill out and return the online Intern Request Form (form found on AOBT webpage above). You will be contacted shortly with information about whether we can place an intern at your site.
(4) Attend Intern Supervisor Orientation on either Tues., Feb. 12 from 4:30 – 5:30 P.M. at Clairemont High School, Rm. 208 or Fri., Feb. 22 from 11:00 AM – 12noon (for new AOBT intern supervisors only).
(5) Attend Internship Interview Fair, Clairemont High, Fri., Feb. 22 12:15 – 2:15 to interview potential interns (or set up alternate interviews)
