By Councilmember Kevin Faulconer
I am honored to be your new Councilmember for Bay Park, Bay Ho and the Morena District. These Clairemont and Linda Vista neighborhoods join Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Mission Bay, Ocean Beach, North Bay/Midway and Point Loma in the new Council District 2.
It is a privilege to work on your behalf for my final two years on the City Council. Over the past several weeks, my team and I have met with Clairemont residents and businesses to hear your priorities: more pedestrian friendly streets and bicycle lanes, repairing roads, protecting Mission Bay’s water quality, beautifying business corridors and cutting red tape for small businesses. I want to continue this discussion and will be attending community meetings and hosting forums throughout 2013 to hear directly from you.
By way of introduction, I’m a Southern California native and graduated from San Diego State University in 1990. My wife, Katherine, is a small business owner, and we live in Point Loma with our two children. On any given weekend you can find me jogging on the boardwalk, bicycling along the San Diego coast or at the beach with our kids.
Voters elected me in 2006 to repair San Diego in the wake of City Hall’s scandals and financial mismanagement. Two principles have guided me: guarding San Diego’s tax dollars and protecting and celebrating our beaches, bays, clean air and quality of life. Through collaboratively solving problems, we’ve been able to stabilize City government and deliver real results for San Diego residents, businesses and future generations.
As chair of the Audit Committee, I’ve worked to restore the City's credit rating and repair its credibility with investors, focusing on bringing financial stability and accountability back to City Hall. As the proud representative for San Diego’s beaches, I led the creation of the Mission Bay Park ballot measure. Approved by voters in 2008, it ensures money generated in Mission Bay Park is invested there and at other city parks to improve our environment.
I will continue to partner with Councilmember Lorie Zapf, who also represents Clairemont, to ensure a smooth transition and strong representation for your neighborhood at City Hall. I look forward to working with you over the next two years. Together, we can build upon past successes and continue improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods, protecting our coastline and moving San Diego forward.
