One of our projects this year is to research our organization's history, so we can compile and celebrate that information with you and the community. We want to know: Where did we first meet? Who served on our board? When did they serve? What issues have we supported and endorsed? All great questions, but with few obvious answers given our 60 years worth of history. To help compile this "timeline of service," we've appointed Director-at-Large Simone Henriques to be our Council's "Historian."
At our meeting tonight, we will officially celebrate and honor the James Madison High School Warhawks football team and their first-ever state championship. We will hear a few words from Head Coach and Madison Athletic Director, Rick Jackson. Also, representatives from SANDAG will attend to update us on the status of the Mid-Coast Trolley extension to UTC.
Finally, we will hear from Regency Centers who own the Balboa Mesa Shopping Center (where Vons and Kohls are located). They will present their plans to update and remodel that location, and CTC will consider voting to either support or oppose their remodel.
We look forward to seeing you at 7:00pm tonight, Thursday, February 7th , in the Cadman Elementary cafeteria, 4370 Kamloop Ave.
Working for you, Clairemont!
The "proposed" development at Balboa Mesa has been approved by the City of San Diego since 2007. What's new is, the owner, Regency is trying to put a fast-food drive through on Genesee where it is prohibited by zoning. This small sliver of land on the western side of Balboa Mesa is zoned "CN" for Commercial Neighborhood. CN prohibits, drive-thoughts, hard liquor, night clubs, 24 hour operation. The Clairemont Community Planing Group (CCPG) reviews all development in Clairemont, already rejected the zoning exception 0-13. Now, the developer is going for a total re-zone and wipe our protective CN zone off the City's zoning map. This is our neighborhood and our home! Stop them!
ReplyDeleteRead below and decide if Clariemont needs a rezoning in this center that will allow hard liquor sales, nightclubs, more fast food drive-thus, allow 24/7 hours of operation and could provide a meeting place for shady characters to conduct their business. All of this is only 50 yards from our bedroom windows. Let’s do what we can to protect Clairemont from becoming just another urban commercial strip center with no regard for the best welfare of her residents. Think El Cajon Blvd, Midway Dr or Rosecrans? Say NO to the rezoning.

A man was shot Wednesday night and found outside an apartment building on a sidewalk along Mount Alifan Drive near Genesee Avenue, behind Vons. Police said an officer was in the area at the time investigating a report of narcotics activity when police received a report of someone being shot.
