Love Dogs? Considering Fostering

Azibo with his forever family.

Second Chance Dog Rescue Provides and Pays for All Food, Medical Care and Supplies for Their Foster Dogs

by Suzanne Deal
This little Chihuahua, at four pounds, was literally starving to death when volunteer Foster Coordinator Robin Giuntini saw him at the Bonita Shelter.

Azibo the Chihuahua was in the shelter, on a concrete floor for over a month. At the shelter to pick up a fancy, pure-bred schnauzer for one of Second Chance's fosters, Robin passed by this little guy's cage and noticed him running in circles because he was so excited to have a visitor. She promised herself that if he was still in the shelter when her foster dog got adopted, that she would take him home and nurse him back to health. And that's exactly what happened. After several months, Robin found the perfect family for this once homeless, frightened dog. Little Azibo now has four little girls who love him dearly. He is thriving in his new home.

As a foster mom and volunteer with Second Chance Dog Rescue, I have fostered and adopted out over thirty healthy dogs that would have been euthanized in the animal shelters simply because the shelter was full.

Second Chance Dog Rescue provides and pays for all medical care, food and supplies for their foster dogs. I've been a foster mom to puppies and adult dogs, poodles, Chihuahuas, Chugs, beagles, schnauzers, Lhasas, and Spaniel mixes and have enjoyed every unique personality.

The time it takes from intake to adoption can be as short as three days or as long as a year depending on the needs of the dog. If you are interested in fostering a certain type or size of dog, you can specify that on your application. We have fosters who specialize in boxers, Rotties, Cocker Spaniels, non-shedding dogs, and others who will provide a home for any dog that strikes their fancy or is in need. It is a great experience that I highly recommend.
