His hope is these poems will be incentive to develop a better understanding of mental disorders in addition to supporting the mission of DBSA San Diego, which is to provide hope, help, and support to improve the lives of people in San Diego County who are living with mood disorders. Support group meetings are every Monday and Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Veterans Administration Hospital. More information is available atwww.dbsasandiego.org/
Mr. Mower began writing poetry after he started to facilitate support groups for DBSA. He heard many different voices coming from different experiences, witnessed much pain, anxiety, grief, guilt and sometimes even humor and joy, which compelled him to write.
Jay Mower is a former advertising professor, marketing executive and consultant, who is now retired and focusing on self-expression through poetry. His poems have appeared in two local anthologies and will appear in the Fall 2013 issues of Acorn Review and Muddy River Poetry Review. Before Different Voices, he authored his first book of poetry, Light Medium Dark.
All proceeds from sales of Different Voices go to DBSA San Diego. Mr. Mower can be contacted at jaymower@yahoo.com.
