Master Henry Cheng |
Fifth generation Tai Chi Master Cheng, originally from Hong Kong, taught in many places such as
recreation centers and the YMCA and needed a studio of his own. About ten years ago he was driving on Clairemont Drive and spotted a building that seemed to have very strong energy for Tai Chi. The stones on the building were decorative and several pine trees overlooking the space called to Henry. He talked to the manager but the space had a renter. Then one day the manager called Henry; the space was available.
Ten years later and Henry’s following is celebrating with him on February 8, 2014 with the grand reopening of his newly renovated center and renowned art exhibition of his calligraphy and brush painting. The day also marks his celebration of the Chinese New Year.
Master Cheng teaches a full range of martial arts at the studio including Tai Chi, Pushing Hands, Self-
Defense, Swords and Sabers, Qi Gong and Calligraphy. Located at 3650 Clairemont Drive, Suite #1, Master Cheng has provided students with the philosophy, language, culture and teachings of this ancient martial art.
Tai Chi masters are rare in the United States. Master Cheng started studying calligraphy and painting
with Master Pak Yu Kong of San Francisco, whose renowned work is on display in museums, when he was six years old, more than a half century ago. Master Henry Cheng has over 46 years of Tai Chi Chuan experience. He was featured recently at a University of California Spring Art Show and his work was on display at the San Diego Zoo at the new Panda Pavilion as well as Macy’s and Neiman Marcus.
