Have “Coffee with the Artist” at Clairemont Coffee Tomorrow!

Have you discovered Clairemont Coffee yet? One of the coolest things about the cafe at 3095 Clairemont Dr., besides their delicious organic coffee, is the art on the walls. The coffee shop has been displaying the works of local artists since it opened late last summer, giving the interior a great individual look, nothing like the corporate coffee chains we see everywhere.

Joseph Metcalf
If you are intrigued by art, or perhaps saw some of the paintings on display then you will be happy to hear of a new venture for the shop: “Coffee with the Artist”.  On three Saturday mornings from 9am-11am Clairemont artist Joseph Metcalf will be painting live in the shop and chatting with patrons about his art. A selection of his paintings is presently hanging in the café. If you have always wondered how artists come up with their ideas, or you are interested in trying painting yourself and have some questions, come over to Clairemont Coffee on March 29th, April 5th and April 12th and ask Joseph to share his thoughts while he paints.

One of the things he will no doubt be thinking about is the Clairemont photo contest he has come up with.  Joseph is inviting anyone and everyone to submit a photo of their favorite Clairemont landscape: maybe that view from the end of your block, or a neighbor’s front yard when the roses are blooming. If it’s a photo of an outdoor spot you love in Clairemont, submit it to the contest on Facebook.com/clairemontcoffee1. You can also vote there for the ones you think are the best of the photos submitted by clicking “Like” on your favorites.  The one with the most “Likes” will win. The prize?  Joseph will use the winning photo image to create a painting which will beautify a utility box in the community.

The winner will be announced at an evening reception and art show on Thursday April 17th from 5-8pm. There will be coffee tasters, giveaways, food and music.  Joseph Metcalf will announce the official winner of the photo contest, and the winning image will be on display.  All are invited to stop in and see the winning image and meet the artist who will transform it into a public work of art in Clairemont!
