Clairemont and Bay Park residents “in the know” will be making their way to the Morena District tomorrow evening to enjoy 7th Annual Taste of Morena. This springtime family-friendly event has become a favorite of the “foodies” in the area who look forward to the opportunity to sample menu items from the thriving Morena District’s restaurants and breweries.

For those who haven’t attended before, the Taste of Morena is a culinary tour of the area along and just off Morena Blvd., from Clairemont Drive south to Linda Vista Road. This year 18 establishments will be welcoming guests with sample-sized versions of selected menu items. The range of cuisines included shows off the diversity of the restaurants in the Morena District. Bistro and BBQ, Cuban and Mexican, Italian and Thai; all are featured on the Taste route.
Looking for something new? How about a gastropub or a brewery tasting room? Your sweet tooth won’t be left unsatisfied either whether it’s cake or frozen yogurt you desire, and of course a delicious cup of coffee from a locally-owned coffeehouse will give you energy to make a few more stops.

Speaking of making stops, the Morena Business Association, which is sponsoring the Taste of Morena, has made it easy to travel to all the participating restaurants, with free shuttles stopping at 11 spots on a continuous loop through the evening. No worries about drinking and driving after a visit to one of the breweries! Plus the relaxed “having-fun” atmosphere on the shuttles always seems to facilitate new friendships.

Joining the list of restaurants on the Taste of Morena for the first time are Zpizza, Bay Park Coffee and Fiji Yogurt. Past year favorites participating again this year are Baci’s, Bull's Smokin' BBQ, NY Giant Pizza, Sardina’s, Bay Park Fish Co., Andre’s, Tio Leo’s, Off Shore Grill, J.V.’s, Luce, J&T Thai Street Food, Home Brew Mart at Ballast Point, Kona Kakes, Coronado Brewing Company and Dan Diegos. Even if you have attended a past Taste of Morena, with so many choices and some new spots to try, you won't want to miss this one. Many of the restaurants offer “come back” coupons as well, so when you find a place you love, you’ll likely have a coupon to make it all the better.
Another new feature this year is a canned food drive to benefit the Jacobs-Cushman San Diego Food Bank. Taste attendees who bring a canned food item to donate are entered in a drawing for gift certificates from restaurants in the area (you do not need to be present to win), so bring along a can of tuna or chili to be sure you are entered.
