What is Relay for Life? Relay is an organized, 24-hour overnight community fundraising walk. Teams of people camp out overnight around a track. Members of each team take turns walking around the track all day and through the night. Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie. This is a family friendly environment for the entire community. Because it’s a team event, individual participants are not required to be there the entire time. But it’s so much fun you’ll find it hard to leave!
Some of the special events incorporated into the 24-hour Relay are:

The Luminaria Ceremony takes place after dark (9pm), so that we can remember people we have lost to cancer, honor people who have fought cancer in the past and support those whose fight continues. Candles are lit inside of personalized bags and are placed around the Relay track as glowing tributes to those who’ve been affected by cancer.
Music Fest will begin at 10am and conclude at 10pm. Bands currently scheduled are: Danielle LoPresti & The Masses, Tiffy Jane & the Kicks, Rebecca Jade, Afrojazziacs, Steph Johnson and Miki Vale. There may also be a few special guests dropping in.
Creativity Tent with American Idol Season 6 Contestant Airika Miss Ladybug, who is now a vocal coach for kids. A special tent which will offer a creative space for kids of all ages!
This event has been in Clairemont several times in the last 15 years. This year, former Clairemont Town Council President and long time resident, Lori Sorbo, a cancer survivor herself, is the event chair. She promises a memorable event.
The Relay for Life will kick off at 8:15am on Saturday May 17th with a breakfast for Survivors and their families. The Survivor Ceremony will start at 9am, which includes a survivor speaker and survivors releasing butterflies, then proceeding to take the Survivors Lap, the first lap of the event. There is no minimum amount of money that needs to be raised to participate in this event. Teams can register for a small fee of just $10. This will provide you with your camp site and allow you the opportunity to camp out and take in all the fun
while supporting a great cause.
