1,000 Students Participate in Kid's Ocean Day

Students and Volunteers Create Aerial Art

I Love A Clean San Diego's Kids' Ocean Day event was a great success!  Close to 1,000 students, including many kids from Clairemont's Field Elementary, participated. They were from eight elementary schools in grades three through five and from communities such as Clairemont, Mission Hills Serra Mesa, Shelltown, City Heights, Allied Gardens and Lincoln Park. Of the participating elementary schools, seven are designated as Title I.

The students and volunteers from all across San Diego conducted a large-scale beach cleanup and participated in a unique aerial art display photo. This year’s aerial art display depicts the image of a pelican, a tribute to ILACSD's first mascot Pelican Pete.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, ILACSD is the go-to organization for programs that enhance and conserve San Diego County’s environment. In 2013, ILACSD with the support of 30,505 volunteers, removed 220 tons of debris from San Diego communities, conducted 219 cleanups and gave 600 education presentations reaching 31,000 people.
