Clairemont Act One Presents "Crimes of the Heart" This Week

Clairemont Act One, our community theater group, will open its 4th season this week with their production of "Crimes of the Heart", the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Beth Henley. Performing at the Northminster Community Hall, 4324 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., the show is directed by Catherine de los Rios and Lauren Mooney Bear.

Crimes of the Heart cast

A dark adult comedy, set in Hazlehurst, Mississippi in 1974, the play tells the story of three sisters reunited in the wake of a bizarre crime. Joy at their reunion soon fades as each sister is forced to face her past in order to save her future. Will Babe go to jail? Will Meg get back her singing voice? Will Lenny's shrunken ovary stand in the way of true love?

Follow these women on a hilarious journey as they find their way back to themselves.* Performances are this Friday October 17th and Saturday October 18th at 7pm with a matinee on Saturday at 1pm. Tickets are $10, with a discounted price of $7 for seniors offered for the matinee. Tickets are available online here or at the door the night of the show.

Clairemont Act One was founded by Katie Turner, a Clairemont graduate student, in 2011. The troupe has performed full length plays including "Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling and "California Suite" by Neil Simon as well as variety shows, an evening of one act plays, and performances in local senior living facilities.

Because Clairemont Act One is run by volunteers, community support is essential to the success of each production.  Most important is your attendance at Act One shows; an audience is essential to theater after all.

Funding is also necessary: for space rental, printing, marketing, insurance and other expenses. Financial support from the community will help Act One reach their goal of putting on professional productions that will not only entertain but enrich their audiences as well. The good news is that Clairemont Act One is a 501(c)(3) Corporation non-profit so all donations are tax-deductible.

Make plans to catch "Crimes of the Heart" this week and support the arts in Clairemont!
