Bay Park Dragon Boat Team Wins Gold

Bay Park's own San Diego Canoe Kayak team kids got together and raced in the 5th Annual San Diego Dragon Boat Race and paddled away with the gold in the high school division.

The annual festival was held last month at Tecolote Shores in Mission Bay Park and is held every year in October. Dragon boat teams of all skill levels, including corporate teams from Qualcomm and Solar Dragons, high schools, cancer survivors, clubs, gyms, and friends get together to race, drum and cheer in synchronicity.

Dragon boating is a great team sport that has its roots in ancient China. In the last 25 years, its popularity has grown like wildfire. There are more than 50 million people worldwide participating in dragon boat paddling each year across 60 different nations. It is also popular as a team building activity for corporations, clubs, churches and other organizations.
