Update From Chris Cate, City Councilman District 6

Chris Cate is sworn in.
On Wednesday, December 10, I had the honor of being sworn in to office as your Councilmember. I want to first thank you for instilling your trust in me. I will be your voice and advocate at City Hall and I will always put neighborhoods in District 6 first.

In a unanimous vote from the San Diego City Council, I was named to four committees, serving as Vice Chair for three. I will bring a solution-oriented approach to my committee service as I work to bolster our police department, strengthen our neighborhoods and grow our City’s local economy. My appointments for 2015 are as follows: Vice Chair: Committee on Charter Review, Vice Chair: Committee on Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods, Vice Chair: Committee on the Environment and Member: Committee on Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations.

Councilmember Cate and Staff
With decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, I am excited to have a diverse staff of military family members, mothers and local residents. Allen Young will be my representative for the neighborhood of Clairemont. Prior to joining my staff team, Allen Young served as a Legislative Aide to a California State Senator in Sacramento. Allen was responsible for a variety of legislative issues ranging from taxation, veteran affairs and government reform. Additionally, Allen served as a key adviser on public safety issues. Before working in Sacramento, Allen worked in several district offices where he collaborated with community leaders to improve their neighborhoods. During his free time, Allen enjoys hiking and exploring the vibrant and diverse food scene of San Diego. Allen can be reached at AllenY@sandiego.gov or (619) 533-6460.

Semper Vigilans. Vigilance is more than my New Year’s resolution for 2015; it’s our City’s aphorism. It’s a core belief. I promise that I will be a voice and ally at City Hall, for the 141,000 residents that call District 6 their home. I will improve the quality of life for families in our neighborhoods. I will be careful, watchful and concise. I will listen to both sides of every issue. I will solicit honest, genuine feedback. And last, but not least, I will be steadfast in my efforts, when it comes to putting neighborhoods first.

The City of San Diego works effectively, efficiently and collaboratively when residents are connected, involved and engaged. From potholes and sidewalk/road repairs, to trash collection questions and park conditions, please always feel free to contact me if there is something I can do to improve your quality of life in Clairemont.
