At Mission Bay Montessori Academy our philosophy is Education for Life. Our purpose is to aid the development of the child to the fullest possible realization of the child’s unique individual potentialities.
The Montessori Method is based on a child’s imperious need to learn by doing. It develops the whole personality of the child, not merely his intellectual faculties, but also his powers of deliberation, initiative and independent choice with their emotional complements.
After years of observation with young children, Dr. Maria Montessori founded a method of education that proved successful throughout the world. Montessori’s individualized instruction focuses on preparation of the environment with a wide range of materials that attract the child’s interest and presents concepts in a carefully sequenced order. Children’s House curriculum is divided into the following areas of study; Sensorial materials, Practical Life exercises, Mathematics, Language along with Enrichment.
Elementary Curriculum is approached in the broadest possible way. Classes are ungraded with an age span and a wide variety of studies that promote individualized work and independence in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competition. Critical thinking skills, responsibility and time management are an important part of our program. Along with our comprehensive Language Arts, Social Studies and Mathematics based on Singapore Math, we have extra-curricular classes that enhance our program, which include Computer, Science, Language lab for Spanish and Chinese, Fine Art, Music and Physical Education.
